In Memory

Judith Fry (Dinneweth)

Judith Fry Dinneweth

Once again, our Mama and Grandma did things her own way and on her schedule, Monday, January 8th, 2024, at 3:03pm. Judith (Judy) E. Dinneweth passed away peacefully at Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Judy was born on September 4th, 1947, in Muscatine IA, to Thomas & Phyllis (Fountain) Fry. When Judy was young in 1955, she moved with her family to Moline, IL, due to her father working at John Deere. Judy graduated from Moline High School. She enjoyed staying connected with "the girls" that she went to school with: Carol, Patti, Suzie, and Susie. Judy went to college to become a paralegal, where she started her career at John Deere. Eventually, she moved to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) in East Moline, IL. She worked there prior and during Rene's tenure as a Business Rep for the union, which they both retired from.

She met and started dating her future husband, Rene Dinneweth, in 1964. They got married in the summer of 1966, September 8th, to be exact. Rene passed away, September 9th, 2015. One day and one year shy of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They enjoyed going to movies and visiting casinos over the years. The running joke was they were spending our inheritance. They received many "Free Gifts" over the years. The grandkids were able to furnish some of their kitchens with appliances that Grandma and Grandpa bought, earned, won, you pick.

Judy and Rene enjoyed going to Door County, WI, which they discovered on one of their, "we don't know where we're going until we get there" trips. They accidentally found Snug Harbor, which became a favorite get-away spot for Judy and Rene until his passing. Judy took several trips up there after he passed as well. She was able to introduce Door County and Snug Harbor to her best friend of forty plus years, Dianne Graham. Judy, Marci, and Cade made several trips over the years as well. We had hoped to make it up there over the holidays and were going to go, "no matter what". However, due to Judy's health, it was unable to come to fruition.

I asked her grandchildren, as well as my brother and sister-in-law to give me one word to describe our mom. According to our clan, Judy was candid, charismatic, free-spirited, whimsical, imaginative, eccentric, spiritual, and cunning. She was wickedly brilliant, a mama-bear, forgiving, however she did not forget. Judy loved hard, with her whole heart. She had a very wry sense of humor, which Rene did not always appreciate, depending on the audience.

Judy is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Son, Mark (Tara) Dinneweth, Malia (Nate), Alex, Atticus & Finley, Devin (Seli), Isadore, Taylor (Alicia), Jasper, Rome, & one on the way, Bryce, Kilee (Chris), Emmett, Harrison, and baby on the way. Daughter, Marci R. Dinneweth (Greg/MacGregor), and their children/grandchild: Alex, daughter Emilia, Mason, Tessa, and Cade. Tres (Bob) Carroll and their children Izzy (Tate) & Lydia are her bonus daughter and family, Marci's best friend. Her brother, Norman (Jeanette) Fry, and their children, Brooks (Tao), Mauli (Gabe) and Brandon. Her sister-in-law, Diane (Dick) Carter and their son, Dan Carter. Finally, brother-in-law, Robert Dinneweth. Judy had many aunts, uncles, and cousins that she was remarkably close with and loved dearly. Also, Judy's leech, Charlie Renee', her puppy. Let's not forget her grandpuppies: Zora, Zoey, Dexter, Marley, Ella, Marigold Bleu and finally, Bear. In addition, Mama D had many additional kids who she claimed, who were friends of Mark and Marci. If you need a ride home at 3am, call Mama D. No questions asked. She just wanted you to get home safely. It did not matter how old we were/are, she claimed you and loved you as if you truly were one of her own. You know who you are and felt her love, unconditionally.

Judy was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and two brothers that passed away as children from hemophilia, Thomas (Tommy) at thirteen & Mitchell (Mickey) at three years old. Nephews, David Carter, Brian Dinneweth and Dustin Fry. Teresa's parents and family, Paul & Beverly Gerlich. Unfortunately, Judy lost many important aunts and uncles and cousins, that she loved dearly. Canine companions over the years: P.T. (Philonious Thaddeus), Clancy,Teddy, Gizmo, Finnigan and her iguana, Ferguson. May they all rest in peace.

Thank you to the Rock Island Firemen and paramedics We got to know them and vice versa very quickly. They were kind, patient, strong, non-judgmental and an extreme blessing to our mom. In addition, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House was a Godsend to the family in our mother's/gram's final days. Thank you for making an exceedingly demanding situation as comforting as possible. You treated and took care of our mother/grandma as we imagine you would your own mothers; with love, kindness and very gentile. God Bless each one of you!

There will be a private, family Celebration of Life for Judy in the Spring. At that time, we will inter Mom's cremated remains, with Dad, at the Rock Island Arsenal cemetery.
