MOLINE — Funeral services for Janice Lee Smith, 66, of Moline, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Christian Church, 1624 Avenue of the Cities, Moline. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, Moline. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Jan passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at her home after a two-year battle with cancer.

Memorials may be made to New Kingdom Trailriders.

Jan was born April 7, 1947, in Moline to Forest Dale and Wilma Claire Arbogast McIntosh. She graduated Moline High School in 1965. She married Ronald Smith on March 11, 1972, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Moline. They had five children.

Jan was known as "Skateland Jan" by many. She loved skating and taught all five children to skate. Jan never met anyone she could not talk to. She strived to be a good Christian. She enjoyed going to her children's sporting events and Moline Boys Choir. She enjoyed her time with and talking to her grandchildren. Jan and Ron were longtime subscribers to Circa '21 in Rock Island. She loved to see her son, Jordan, when he was in productions at Playcrafters, Richmond Hill and New Ground. She also loved going to Harrison Hilltop Theater at the District in Rock Island. She became friends with many of the actors. Jan worked at Moline Public Hospital as a dietary worker and in housekeeping before she became a fulltime mother.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Smith, Moline; daughter, RisaJilane Claire Smith, Milan; sons, Ryan Smith, Bloomington, Ill., Jed Hunter Smith, Chatsworth, Ill., Jordan Lee Smith, Davenport, and Jared Dale Smith, Dickinson, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Jenifer Shandrow-Smith, Normal, Ill.; and grandchildren, Austin Joseph, Dakota Iris, Holden Christian, Caitlin Ryleigh, Alana Quinn and Gavin Donovan. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Donald Francis and Wayne Allen.

Jan was a special friend.  We met during Methodist Youth Fellowship at Aldersgate Methodist Church.  She nick named me Tommy Lynn when we went camping with the MYF.  She still called me that at our reunions.  She was a hoot!  She will be missed.
