In Memory

Louis Ainsworth

Ainsworth, Louis L. Born in Moline, IL, passed away peacefully at home in St. Louis Park, MN on March 17, 2025, at the age of 77. Louis is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Katherine (Chesley) and Lucy (Alexis); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Blanche, and William, and three siblings.

Louis was a proud graduate of Moline High School, Seattle University, and William Mitchell College of Law. He thrived in his years as a corporate lawyer with several law firms in Minneapolis and as General Counsel at Pentair. His tenure as a professor and distinguished practitioner-in-residence for the Center for Law and Business at Mitchell Hamline School of Law highlighted his talent for sharing knowledge and mentoring students. Louis was a true scholar of law, history, and languages and a voracious reader.

His travels took him from canoeing the Boundary Waters to corporate negotiations in China to Michelin-starred restaurants in France. He was equally at home at the lake in northern Minnesota as he was driving on the Autobahn. He was a fabulous cook and connoisseur of fine wine. His quick wit and vast knowledge of literature were his calling cards. Louis will be missed by family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Lakewood Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (pcf.org). www.Washburn-McReavy.comEdina Chapel 952-920-3996

Not Louis !! I remember a few parties that Louis had at his house ( I think it was 8th or 9th grade).

27th street or 25th ?? Always a good guy and friend.  RIP my friend.  Ralph C

Louis was a great guy. A group of us also attended some parties and we got into a little trouble together because of those. This is not his obituary but a great testament to his life from his law school.

Louie was a close friend of mine. We used to play basketball at his house and mine with other close friends. He was a very smart guy, yet had that knack for craziness. We used to hotrod around in his Barracuda seeking fun and fortune. Now he is at peace in another good home. My heart now goes out to his loving wife,Sue, and daughters Lucy and Katherine. Love,Bill.

Lou and I were friends both in High school and after.  He and wife Susan allowed me to stay in their cottage in northern Minnesota, on Pleasant Lake, two entire summers, while they were in Europe.  Enjoyed fishing and playing golf with him up there every now and then when he'd come up.  Very peaceful there except one late night when a straight line storm went through and took down some red pines, but no home damage.  I sill have a photo of me holding up one of the trees. :-)

I will truly miss him.  Rest in peace good friend.

I've considered Lou, aka The Lip, a close friend since Junior High. He lived a remarkably full and productive life, to the benefit of many, including me. I spoke with Lou in home hospice a few weeks before his demise; I portrayed the Louis I'll always remember:
* Unusually bright and articulate.
* Extraordinarily accomplished.
* Food / wine connoisseur.
* Multilingual world traveler.
* Kind, fun loving, helpful, and generous. I think to various times he was a sounding-board for me in navigating various legal matters. Also, as a founder of our MHS65 Scholarship, he provided valuable legal and operational guidance in setting-up and administering our Class Legacy. Further, he was a "Perpetual Maroon" via his generous contributions in funding our Scholarship.

In all, a remarkable guy I'm fortunate to have known! God bless you, Louis.....
