Richard Ryckeghem

Richard “Rick” Ryckeghem, 71, of Moline, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2019, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the National Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 246.  Memorials may be made to Rick’s family for a fund to be established in his name. 

Rick was born to Vernon W. Ryckeghem and Catherine “Kay” (Creen) Ryckeghem on September 13, 1947, in Moline.  He was a U.S. Veteran, serving in the Navy.  He married Connie Allen and later married Kathy L. (Maranda) Johnson on April 26, 1980, in Moline.  Rick retired as a Police Detective on September 8, 2000, after 32 years of service with the Moline Police Department.  He later worked for MetroLINK Risk Management for over ten years.

Rick was a former ASA softball coach for many teams in the Quad Cities from 1973-2018.  He was the past president of Illinois State Crime Stoppers Association and was instrumental in starting Scholastic Crime Stoppers in high schools throughout Illinois to increase school safety.  He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family and friends. Rick was a friend and mentor to many.  He did his best to make a difference in the lives of everyone he came into contact with. 

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; sons, Scott (Kelly) Ryckeghem, Andalusia, Todd (Deb) Ryckeghem, Moline, and daughter, Maranda (J.C.) Millman, Coal Valley; 13 grandchildren; Tyler, Nick, Jakob, Ryan, Zach, Owen, Drew, Brady, Liam, Josie, Charlie, Grace and Claire, 3 great grandchildren; Willow, Jayce and Asher, 3 step grandchildren; Alli, Kimi and Gerad, and 3 great step grandchildren; Davis, Maggie, Julian and Jarrin; sisters, Tami (Tom) Cox, East Moline, and Janis (Terry Mooney) Rasso, East Moline; mother-in-law, Jackie Maranda, Moline; step mother-in-law, Carm Shouse, Coal Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stewart Garneau and his staff for the care given to Rick over the years; Al and Carla Friedland, Mark Kinsey, Andy and Kelly McKay, Legends of Law Enforcement, Flips Restaurant, and the numerous family members and friends, too many to count, for all of your support.
