Even though mike and I were on opposite ends of the rainbow on politics, we remained in constant contact. I owe mike and his father so much, .. Ride your horse into the sky Mike RIP
He was a nice guy. Always made me feel like I was somebody.
Where you have gone my good friend, I do not know. Where you have been, I know very well As friends who often traveled the same space, At the same time, making perpetual lifetime memories.
I first met John, the same as many others, as far back as grade school, but for me it was sixth grade when I transferred from William Carr to Roosevelt and then all through high school. I found out things about John’s post high school life I would not have known without reading his remembrance. I did have contact with he and his brother Jim when I got a German Shorthair pup from one of their hunting dogs. I also enjoyed reading about his agricultural pursuits, although I did follow the “best asparagus” farm on his FB posts. John fulfilled the saying that life was not to cross home plate with an intact body and a clean uniform, but to slide in head first, with a body well worn from being an active life participant and not a spectator. My sincere condolences to Pati and the rest of his family. Your good memories of him as brother, husband, father and grandfather will sustain you through your time apart.
It is often said in the United States that all men (and obviously to a greater extent women) are created equal. Although with Al Buchanan, he didn't stay that way. I first remember Al at Coolidge. My recollection was he had a beard; maybe not, but he projected one. In my view he was a man among boys, even at an early age. I admired Al. In high school we were teammates, but still there was that man/boy thing that slipped into my perception. He was a great athlete with whom you were glad to be on the field. We had different training styles though, and those that know both Al and I know what I mean. :) You couldn't help but like him. After high school we did not see each other much, but later in life we connected with a couple emails and joked about us both becoming "cowboys" of sorts, him approaching more of the real thing. When I started watching "Yellowstone", I thought to myself that Buck was a real life "Rip." It was also interesting to read in his obituary that he had also become involved in local government. Man among boys . . . Rest in Peace! My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. I am glad I knew Al.
Steve was someone that I felt close to through football and track. After high school had a connection with his older brother Woody. Liked them both and my condolences go out to his family. I am sure Steve had a life well lived.
It was sad to hear of Bill's I was sorry to hear of Bill's passing and my condolences to his family. Bill was the kind of guy that caused you to start to smile just seeing him because you just knew laughter was not far behind. I liked that about him and know others did as well.
I was sorry to read of Bob's passing and my condolences go out to his family. Bob and I were friends through sports. I was glad to hear he was the leading tackler, although I remember a tackle he made on offense. I recovered a Jeff Hall fumble and miracuously found the correct end zone unscathed, only to have the hell knocked out of me in the end zone. It was Bob Spain congratulating me on fullfilling every lineman's dream. I think Bob was more excited and happier than I was. I was glad we played on the same team and got to see that wide grin coming from that red face on more than one occasion. Rest in peace big man!
Rory was one of my first friends after my family moved to 36th Street.I liked Rory and our frienship and enjoyed watching him as an athlete because he was a natural at almost everything he participated in, but stayed humble even though he was obviously so talented. Saw hm on his route a few times, always with a smile on his face. My condolences regarding your loss. Know he is remembered well.
Jerry and I had ocasional contact after graduation, but mostly through track related activities and my dad. However, a little over a year ago we fell into video chats on messenger on an almost weekly basis. I had forgotten about his planned family trip to Disney World and had tried to do one of our video chats while he was down there. I missed his call back, but he wrote me a Thanksgiving message. Jerry had been fighting a variety of health issues and tried any modality that he thought might improve his qualty of life and extend his time with his family, who I could tell was a great motivation to keep fighting the good fight. Just like the races he ran, he never gave up. He vicariously enjoyed my horses and I thinkmy horse stories kept him entertained. I won't ever hear myvideo call alert now without first remembering Jerry Barr. My sincere condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren. Your husband, dad, and grandpa was a good man.
